Occupational Therapy (OT)
Children’s “occupations” are their daily activities including play, learning, social skills, and self-care skills. A skilled OT is an individual who studies child development, as well as the sensory systems and how sensory input from within the environment may impact a child’s overall development. An OT aims to support children and their parents / caregivers with successful navigation of their daily challenges to allow these children to live their best lives.
OT treatments may include a combination of:
- Customized treatment plans to address individual concerns within their child’s daily life, including: Fine Motor Skills, Visual Motor Skills, Visual Perceptual Skills, Feeding Skills, Sensory Processing Skills
- Guidance of parents / caregivers on recommended therapeutic activities and exercises to incorporate in the child’s daily life
- Sensory based activities and strategies to incorporate in the child’s daily life
Physical Therapy (PT)
A skilled PT is an individual who studies child development and typical Gross Motor Skills and movement patterns of children. A PT will aim to support children and their parents / caregivers with assisting the children in meeting their developmental milestones through therapeutic exercises and activities to promote strength and endurance to help overcome the challenges they may face daily, so they may live their lives to the fullest!
PT treatments may include a combination of:
- Customized treatment plans to address individual concerns for a child’s Gross Motor Development including: rolling, crawling, walking, running, jumping, riding a bike, throwing a ball
- Guidance of parents / caregivers on recommended therapeutic activities and exercises to incorporate in the child’s daily life
- Recommendations for orthotics or adaptive equipment if necessary
